Traveling with purpose and heart: Niklas Huppmann on his Shades of Love project
In celebration of our 10th episode Faithglimpses I would like to introduce you to a wonderful project. Niklas Huppmann is waiting for you in the interview. Niklas is co-founder of Shades of Love, a truly extraordinary non-profit organization from Munich. Shades of Love is a project that has set itself the task of distributing new and used sunglasses to the most remote mountain regions of the world.
In areas such as the Andes and the Himalayas, people are exposed to particularly intense UV radiation, which has been shown to damage not only the skin but also the eyes and vision. Up to 80% of the population in these mostly very remote regions suffer from eye diseases such as blindness or eye cancer.

Why a pair of sunglasses can change a whole life
What many do not know: sunglasses can make a huge contribution to protecting the eyes and vision of people in these regions and thus preventing certain eye diseases. In an interview, Niklas reports on the idea, the founding and the adventures he has had with the project so far and how a single pair of sunglasses can positively influence a person's life and the associated quality of life.
In the meantime, Shades of Love has been able to deliver over a hundred thousand pairs of glasses to the most remote areas of the world. But that's just the beginning. Shades of Love cooperates with so-called "Eye Operation Camps" on site, which also enable surgical interventions. These camps are usually established and run by local monks and doctors.

In this episode you will find out
- How the project came about
- Why humanity knows no borders
- How you too can participate in Shades of Love
- How it feels to be on adventurous journeys and at the same time to help people

Thank you for your great article. I'm lost for words! I didn't even know that there were such problems in these countries.

Thank you dear Katherine. Before I heard about Shades of Love, I wasn't too aware of the problem with the intense UV radiation in mountain regions. It is all the nicer that this project exists and draws attention to it.
I wish you a wonderful day
Best regards,
Lina
