To Prague for Christmas

You could say that it has almost become a tradition for me to travel around Christmas time. Because I always find it exciting to experience how other cities and countries prepare for Christmas and celebrate the festival of love. This time we went to the Czech capital at the end of 2019. When it comes to accommodation, we chose the famous Four Seasons Prague Hotel decided. The elegant luxury hotel was voted the best hotel in the city by the "Independent on Sunday" in 2004.

Prague at Christmas time: simply magical

I have long wanted to travel to Prague in winter and experience the magical atmosphere for myself. Since I especially love romantic and historical destinations, the choice was very easy for me this time. I wanted to feel like I was in one of those classic, cozy Christmas movies where miracles can happen and you can almost smell the cookies through the screen.

Prague in winter – arrival and arrival at the Four Seasons Prague

Winter greeted us on the way to Prague with a cinematic blizzard on the streets. The closer we were to our destination, the less it snowed, but we were lucky enough to catch a few isolated snowflakes in Prague. My absolute favorite moment in winter is coming out of the cold and into the warm. If the building you walk into is not only cozy and warm, but also magically festively decorated and greets me with a sea of flowers, then I feel welcome right away. Upon our arrival we were immediately warmly welcomed with so much charm and friendliness that we felt at home straight away. In peace we looked around in the impressive lobby.

Warm up with a hot chocolate

Before we went to the room, there was a hot chocolate in the lobby of the Four Seasons Hotel. And I'm not exaggerating when I say it the best hot chocolate was that I have ever drunk! Incidentally, hot chocolate is available to all hotel guests free of charge during the Christmas period. Of course, we didn't miss the opportunity to take a few photos of the lobby and the sugar-sweet stand where we were allowed to help ourselves.

In the heart of Prague - the most beautiful sights just around the corner

The Four Seasons Prague is located right in the historic heart of the capital of the Czech Republic. In just a few minutes' walk, you can reach the Moldau (Vltava river in Czech) and the world-famous Charles Bridge. With its striking baroque sculptures of saints and patron saints of the city, it is considered the symbol of Prague and is one of the oldest stone bridges in Europe. Its construction dates back to the 14th century and many stories and legends surround it to this day. So it is not surprising that thousands of tourists cross the bridge every day. Due to the excellent location of the hotel, we were able to walk to the bridge in the morning before breakfast and avoid the large rush of visitors.

Christmas market in Old Town Square in Prague

The Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí), probably the liveliest center of the city and a popular meeting place, is also very close to the hotel. Here you will find numerous sights, such as the historic town hall with its astronomical clock, the Tyn Church with its two characteristic towers (called "Adam" and "Eva") or the house of the golden bell.

The largest Christmas market in Prague takes place every year in the Old Town Square. The enchanting backdrop of historic houses, cafés and sights as well as the 22-meter-tall Christmas tree contribute to the unique festive atmosphere of the Christmas market at which I have not experienced anywhere else. From the traditional Czech pastry Trdelnik to classic Christmas cookies or various types of mulled wine, there is something for every taste.

Weekend trip to Prague

Luxurious and cozy - the rooms & suites at the Four Seasons Prague

Our spacious room was not only luxurious but also very comfortable and cozy. This rare combination applies to the entire hotel. The whole atmosphere is elegant and modern at the same time. Guests can expect unobtrusive, timelessly elegant furnishings with great attention to detail. The color combination of light cream tones and soft turquoise in combination with the marble in the bathroom and the large chandeliers makes you stop and marvel as soon as you enter.

Delicious chocolates and touching novels

As a little bookworm, I love properties that provide books for their guests. Especially when they are books with a regional connection to the city I am in. So far, however, I have not been lucky enough to find such a book in my hotel room. So I was all the happier when I noticed several novels in our room at the Four Seasons Prague.

I accidentally pulled a book off the shelf and was immediately fascinated by the visual language and the special story. Especially because in the novel "Love and Garbage" by Ivan Klíma, Prague is the scene of events. While reading I also tried the fine pralines, which were in a noble Mucha case. A perfect end to an exciting day in the golden city, as Prague is sometimes called!

The SPA & Wellness area in the Four Seasons Prague

Did I mention how much I love city hotels with a spa? Especially when the spa also offers a phenomenal view. The beautiful AVA Spa is housed in a historic, neoclassical building with a direct view of Prague Castle. Various exclusive face and body treatments and traditional Czech thermal bath treatments are offered. There is also a sauna and a small pool.

Timeless and very trendy - Piazzetta Pop-Up Restaurant

I found the cute pop-up restaurant "Piazetta" right on the river with a view of the Charles Bridge to be very cool and stylish. When the weather is good, you can sit comfortably outdoors, watch the hustle and bustle with a drink, try a delicious snack and simply enjoy the wonderful view.

With this breakfast, even morning grouches will voluntarily become early risers

The sumptuous breakfast buffet at the Four Seasons Hotel Prague really leaves nothing to be desired! I particularly like the spectacular view of the Charles Bridge. There is a pleasant, friendly atmosphere throughout the breakfast room. Even if I tend to be one of the morning grouches, I like to be woken up by this fantastic view and the smell of fresh coffee and irresistibly delicious pancakes. This is how the day can start!

It's the people who make the difference

We were always greeted with friendly faces from all sides in the entire house. It never seemed artificial, but always warm and authentic. The beautiful ambience is also created by the perfect, unobtrusive service of all employees, who made our stay so special. It's probably not lost on you: I'm thrilled and get really excited when I report about the Four Seasons Hotel in Prague. Why? Because we felt completely comfortable during our stay.

Conclusion – No, I am definitely not a backpacker

When I was younger, my main focus was on a destination and less on the quality of the accommodation. It should be clean and central. However, over the years my focus has changed for one important reason. From experience I can say that accommodation in which you don't feel comfortable can negatively affect an entire holiday. After many years and travelling, I found out for myself how I would like to travel. In doing so, I realized how important it is to find a hotel or accommodation in which you can feel completely comfortable. And how much a nice, comfortable hotel can positively influence a trip. A good example of this is the Four Seasons Hotel in Prague. Our stay at this hotel made the trip to Prague so perfect!

So why the Four Seasons in Prague?

The Four Seasons is certainly not just the epitome of luxury for me. After a long day of sightseeing, we were able to fully relax here and process our impressions. Due to the central location, we could always go back to the hotel, unwind in the spa area, hop in the pool and at the same time we were in the heart of the city. Especially in winter it is very pleasant to be able to warm up in this cozy hotel and escape the hustle and bustle at the same time.

The whole atmosphere is stylish, comfortable and never overdone. The Four Seasons in Prague is worth a visit not only because of its excellent location at any time of the year, but also because of the changing seasonal program. In spring, summer and autumn, weather permitting, individual boat tours and concerts are offered. At Christmas time, the hotel is transformed into a festive winter wonderland.

The Four Seasons Prague

The soul of Prague

But the most important thing is that the soul of Prague can be felt in this hotel. There is a certain magic in the air of this city. And exactly this magic is also present in the Four Seasons Prague. We were thrilled and would love to come back.
