I recently found a great DIY activity: making soap myself! It may not sound that simple at first, but I will show you how you can make your own individual soap with little effort and just a few steps.

Make your own soap at home: the list of ingredients
Before we start, you'll first need the "ingredients" that we're going to use to make our soap. I have always used vegan and cruelty-free soap flakes as a base for my soap. Of course, you can also use leftover bars of soap, which you can grate with a (cheese) grater. Step-by-step instructions: make your own soap
Needed time: 45 Minutes
Actually it's really quite simple. In just 10 steps you can already make your own soap. It took me less than 15 minutes to make the soap, then the soap has to freeze in the freezer for at least 3 hours before we can use it. Here we go.
- Dissolve soap flakes
First we have to dissolve the soap flakes in a hot water bath and add some water.
- add fragrance
The next step is to give the soap a pleasant scent. For this I used lavender and ylang ylang, dried lavender buds and rose petals that I was able to "harvest" from our winter garden.

Now we have to knead the soap flake mixture like a dough and then press it into our shape.
- We give the soap its shape
To give the soap a nice shape I have one each silicone mold used (you can see exactly which ones in my video below). However, you could also use old cookie cutters to shape stars or Christmas trees, for example. A little tip: With the leftover dough I formed a nice little soap ball at the end.
- Soap in freezer
The last step is to put the soap in the freezer for at least three hours. I then packed the soap bars in decorative bags and they are ready to give away 🙂
