Unique luxury in a historic ambience: The Homage Hotel Maison Messmer in Baden-Baden
The Homage Hotel Maison Messmer, a member of the Homage Luxury Collection, is located in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage city of Baden-Baden in close proximity to the Kurhaus, the Kurgarten and the Baden-Baden Theater. Guests can easily reach all major attractions such as the renowned thermal baths and the casino on foot. As the former summer residence of the imperial couple, the house can also look back on an eventful history. Emperor Wilhelm I, Queen Victoria, Empress Elisabeth of Austria and the Tsar's family once met here.
Maison Messmer through the ages
The Maison Messmer country house was built in 1833 by the Baden War Minister Secretary Johann Baptist Messmer on a hill next to the later spa house and casino. Among the guests of the house were nobles, diplomats and poets. Within a few years, Maison Messmer developed into a popular residence for German and European politicians during the summer months.
In the year of the revolution, Prince Wilhelm came to Baden-Baden and chose accommodation with, of all people, the staunch democrat Johann Baptist Messmer. But his stay took an unexpected turn. The hospitality of his political opponent quickly transformed the initial distrust into a deep friendship. When he said goodbye, Prince Wilhelm said: “I came to you as an enemy, next time I will return as a friend.” He kept his promise, and the Maison Messmer was the summer residence of the German imperial couple for over 40 years. High-ranking guests from Prussia were often guests at the Maison Messmer, which meant that many conferences were held here rather than in the castle. The emperor's annual visit made the Maison Messmer famous far beyond its borders.
Today, the Maison Messmer remains a luxury hotel, a place of hospitality and encounters. With its exquisite rooms and exclusive suites, the elegant restaurant JB Messmer, a fantastic wellness area and first-class event rooms, the hotel offers everything you need for an unforgettable stay - and above all for a dream wedding.
Getting married in Baden-Baden: The small cosmopolitan city
Baden-Baden has long been known as a spa and spa town. The Romans already enjoyed the hot thermal springs on the edge of the Black Forest. And since imperial times, Europe's summer capital has impressed with its glamorous charisma. Here, classicist jewels of Art Nouveau, magnificent hotel palaces, romantic rose gardens and extensive park landscapes compete for the attention of guests. Since 2021, the 2.000-year-old “small cosmopolitan city” has been part of the city along with ten other cities “Great Spa Towns of Europe”, to them too Bad Ems heard, a spa town that I visited last year. Surrounded by rolling hills and vineyards, Baden-Baden enjoys a mild, sunny climate in which even palm trees and lemon trees feel comfortable.
The historic architecture of the spa houses, the magnificent villas and winding streets give Baden-Baden a feeling incomparably romantic magic. A walk along the famous Lichtentaler Allee invites you to travel back in time. The list of personalities who have strolled here is long and impressive. Celebrities such as Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Otto von Bismarck and Richard Wagner were once among the city's spa guests. And even today, the city still regularly attracts prominent visitors with a wealth of sporting and cultural events. The city becomes a true color spectacle, especially in spring, when the numerous magnolia and cherry trees bloom. Even though we live nearby, a walk in Baden-Baden always feels like a short vacation.

The private elevator takes you to the exclusive heart of the hotel. On a generous 240 m², the Penthouse Suite at Maison Messmer offers a unique retreat that meets the highest demands. You can take a tour of the suite in our story highlights on Instagram. This “room tour” was our most extensive so far and filming wasn’t that easy because this suite is just so huge. One of the highlights is undoubtedly the huge panoramic roof terrace. A proud 160 m² offers an incomparable view over the roofs of the city - the perfect setting for your very special day.

The Penthouse Suite is ideal as a bridal suite or as a location for a bachelor party. In addition to the spacious rooms, guests have the opportunity to be pampered with culinary highlights by the hotel chef in the fully equipped kitchen directly in the Penthouse Suite. Another extraordinary suite awaits you on 200 m², divided into four luxuriously furnished rooms. The Homage Deluxe Suite offers two large bedrooms, a living room, a dining room as well as a kitchen and two bathrooms. Here you can relax in the private room sauna or take a warm bath in the adventure bathtub. It gets cozy by the elegant fireplace. For the music lovers among you, this suite even has your own piano and an exclusive TV-hi-fi multimedia system. Baden-Baden, as a festival city, is home to many artists and musicians every year. A piano in the room therefore proves to be extremely practical for some people and at the same time gives the room an enchanting elegance. Several windows in the living and dining areas are equipped with small French balconies and offer a fantastic view of Baden-Baden.
Breakfast & dinner at Maison Messmer
Breakfast takes place every morning in the elegant JB Messmer restaurant and leaves nothing to be desired. In addition to an extensive breakfast buffet, there are also numerous egg dishes that can be ordered at the table. With a view of the theater, which is directly opposite, the fresh coffee tastes even better. But the JB Messmer restaurant doesn't just offer morning delicacies. You can also eat very well here at lunch and in the evening. The quick lunch menu offers a variety of fine, light dishes that are perfect for recharging your batteries and continuing the day.
In the evening, a romantic atmosphere immediately arises at the candlelight dinner. The varied menu presents a selection of fine dishes prepared using local and seasonal ingredients. We loved the spring tarts and the wild zander. What we particularly noticed was the warm and very attentive service, which perfectly rounded off our culinary experience. Every guest is lovingly cared for and the service also responds to individual requests.
Wellness, yoga & spa at Maison Messmer
We were also impressed by the lovingly designed “Royal Spa” wellness area. Designed in a stylish Art Deco style, this 800 square meter spa area is a real treat Wellness oasis in the center of Baden-Baden. We particularly like the different levels with the gallery, which is a bit reminiscent of a theater. Swimming a few lengths in the warm indoor pool is a real treat. The colorful glass dome transforms the room into a beautiful play of light.
On the cute balcony overlooking the pool, guests can sample something tasty from the snack menu, including fresh smoothies, salads and even Ayurvedic dishes. In addition to the indoor pool, there is also a sauna area with a Finnish sauna, a herbal steam bath and probably the most beautiful hammam we have ever visited. Inspired by the architecture of ancient Rome and the paintings of artist Gustav Klimt, the rooms are decorated with fascinating mosaic artworks. If you're ready for a massage, you can simply take a look at the spa menu, which offers a diverse selection of massages and beauty treatments. For guests who long for a little sunshine, there is a cozy and private outdoor area in the courtyard, ideal for relaxing and recharging your batteries. There is also a wonderful, spacious yoga room and the option to book yoga classes.
