How often do I hear the phrase: "Time is money." How often has it made me think, clouded my happy moments and pushed me in a direction I no longer want to go. Because I'm going to tell you a secret that shouldn't be one: time is not money, time is life. Absolute, pure life. But what does that mean in the end? It means that first and foremost it is important to be aware of the finite nature of life. But it also means that life doesn't happen when we feel like it, but now, right now, every second. Unlike money, which can come and go as a classic medium of exchange, time can only pass. Each one of us only has a certain amount of time on earth.

Unlike money, we cannot hold time, manipulate it, save it, bank it, or freeze it. We can only live time. But above all we can experience them and it is precisely these experiences, which gradually become memories, that make them so precious. It is often not about giving life more days, but more life to the days.

I want to be in control of my time. However, I have found that I have not worn a watch for a long time and instead always look at my smartphone. Permanent distraction. A minute quickly turns into half an hour and this is sometimes repeated several times a day. Then quickly answer a Whats App message and hey presto she's gone along with the thought of what I actually wanted to do and with my time too. My cell phone, the time waster.

Because of all the impressions, you not only lose concentration, but also focus. So I've finally decided to get another one pm to wear. Totally classic and timeless. What do you do to better manage your time? I have collected a few thoughts for you that always help me to use and appreciate my time wisely. This is not about time management, but about a loving perspective on the phenomenon of time.

Life also happens during work

We spend around 3.716 days of our lives at work. But it feels longer, doesn't it? Perhaps because most of us think of free time and work as two completely different universes. There's nothing unusual about that. A separation is even recommended and practiced by society. However, this separation means that many people can only really feel free during their free time and consider at least 8 hours or more a day as a "must" or even a burdensome task. Add to that the commute to work and back. At the same time, we don't stop living and being while we're at work or on the way there.

The separation between leisure and work has a limiting effect, because in this way our own lifetime is narrowed. Otherwise the so-called “work-life balance” would not exist. It's incredibly helpful to know that both free time and work time are just imaginary limitations in our minds. Wouldn't it be nicer to just let go of the thought that you first have to work for your free time? When you realize that working time is YOUR lifetime, then work is about much more than just money. Suddenly, the added value and meaning of your work comes to the fore for you.

Write down your desires and goals

Have you ever written down or visualized your desires and goals in life? Nothing is more helpful than being clear about what you want. But sometimes it helps to know what you don't want. That's why I regularly write down my wishes and goals and check a few months later which of them I've already been able to achieve. Much more: I set myself personal deadlines. Sometimes “later” and “sometime” become “never”. But if you deal with your wishes and goals a little every day, you will bring them into your consciousness again and again.

Keep a to-do list to check off

Hardly anything else is as satisfying and satisfying as the feeling of finally ticking a box behind completed tasks.

You immediately feel more productive and also a bit proud that you have really mastered the things you set out to do. Even if it's just small things. It's a nice feeling for me to know what I can achieve and experience in one day. The most important thing is to always get going. to keep moving. My first step is the daily to-do list, which always includes at least one thing I can really look forward to. Be it a delicious meal, going to the cinema or making someone laugh. Sometimes everything even happens at the same time 🙂 In this way, my to-do list contributes to my own productivity without making me feel burdened.

Just forget the time

When have you ever completely forgotten the time? One of the most effective ways to keep track of your time is to enjoy it and, in happy moments, to just forget about it. Sounds paradoxical right? Only through the happy moments do we really realize the value of time. We realize how happily we can spend time and at the same time we may question the hours when we don't feel that way. Why do they feel different? What can you do to make your everyday life feel a little more like the moments when you are really free and forget the time? Happy moments can therefore be an incentive to steer your life in a beneficial direction and to better understand the true value of time.

Ask your fellow human beings what time in their life remains unforgettable

If you want to know the value of a year, ask someone who works in the hospital. If you want to know the value of a month, ask the traveler who has been to another continent for the first time in 4 weeks. If you want to know the value of a week, ask a student a week before their term paper deadline. If you want to know the value of a day, ask someone who wants nothing more than to spend another day with a loved one who is no longer there.

If you want to know the value of a minute, ask a person who just missed their train to the interview. If you want to know the value of a second, ask someone who narrowly escaped an accident. How about asking your friends and relatives which moments in their life were unforgettable or particularly important for them and why? Have conversations with older people or with children, with people from a completely different generation. You will see how much they have to tell and you will hear many wonderful, funny and touching stories. And maybe even see some similarities.

“Time is very slow for those who wait; very quickly, for those who are afraid; very long for those who are sad; very quickly, for those who celebrate but for those who love, time is eternity.”
William Shakespeare

Not only before Christmas I want to use the time sensibly and mindfully. But every day. Because every second lived at some point adds up to the sum of our life. What experiences have you had with the preciousness of time?

    1. Hello dear Saskia Katharina,

I'm totally with you! The most precious time is the time that you can share with other people. And life is better when you share it with others.

      Best regards,
      Lina

  1. A very valuable, thoughtful post!
I recently discussed the topic “time is money” with a colleague, and he had a different view of it than you do – he said he would at least give the company his (lifetime) time, the most important thing man can have, so the company should reward him appropriately for it. So time turned into money, although, as you correctly write, you cannot put time on the bank or save it.
Sometimes I have to remind myself not to forget life on the previous days while looking forward to a certain date. When there's a great event coming up at the weekend, I tend to wish the week would go by super fast - which, of course, is nonsense! These days aren't worthless, just because there's no great event taking place on them, and they should be filled with life and memories accordingly.

    1. Hello dear Nessa,

Wow thank you very much! This is such an exciting topic. Of course (lifetime) should be adequately remunerated. I believe that if someone decides to invest most of their time in a company, then money should not be the only motivation and reward, but also the value and purpose of the job. I think the most important questions you can ask yourself, apart from the question of payment, are: What personal added value does the job bring, apart from the money? Do your personal values match your job? Otherwise, sooner or later you may end up in a conflict of values.
I also know about the weekend 😀 but sometimes the days before a great event turn out to be even more surprising or beautiful than the event itself.
I wish you a wonderful day with lots of life, joy and memories <3

      Best regards,
      Lina

  2. What beautiful thoughts! I'm with you there. Time is money...that's true in my eyes. But how we see it is actually very different. So at some point I learned to spend money on certain things in order to have time. It is an estimate of values.
I really like wearing a watch. The smartphone is playing less and less of a role, as I too have noticed how much time it takes up. Useless and often pointless waste of time.

    Best regards,
    Doreen

    1. Hello dear Doreen,

Thank you for sharing your inspiring thoughts 🙂 Money in itself is a wonderful thing as it opens up countless possibilities and can help to achieve one's life goals or at least boost them enormously. A positive money mindset is therefore so important, because money is nothing reprehensible, quite the opposite. But without time, because of an illness or because desired goals in life have been constantly postponed and then suddenly there is no more time, even money becomes powerless. Money can do a lot, but we humans can do a lot more, after all we even invented it. I also think it's great when you can invest or use money in such a way that you have more time for the things that are important to you. It is as you write, an estimate of the values.

      Best regards,
      Lina

  3. Wow what a great post. I'm honestly speechless 😮
You don't notice that you are writing about a cooperation and that's what I think is great.
But how much you have dealt with the topic of time and have once again shown how important it is and how often it is forgotten is absolutely amazing. Instead of preaching, you just gently pointed out the impermanence and how time passes differently for different people in different life situations.
    Just wow!
    Warm regards

    1. Dear Janine,

Thank you very much for your wonderful feedback and the warm words! You just made me smile 🙂
I wish you a wonderful week.

      Best regards,
      Lina

  4. How wonderfully interesting and inspiring you wrote that! I read the post a second time and let it sink in because you packed so many great ideas into it. I once read the comparison of lifetime with a bank account - every person is given a time account at birth, from which money is withdrawn again and again, but nothing can be paid in and when the account is empty, then life is over. But since nobody knows how much is still available in their account, it is important to live consciously every day, every hour, every minute and not to postpone dreams to "sometime", because maybe this sometime will no longer exist at all . I therefore think it is important to collect many wonderful moments in life.
Have a wonderful evening and all the best

    1. Thank you very much for your feedback! Your words make me very happy right now.
The comparison with the bank account could not be more accurate.
I wish you a wonderful day full of wonderful moments 🙂

      Dearest greetings,
      Lina

  5. Dear Lina, every word you say gives me goosebumps and I absorb every sentence. I love it when something makes me think and you always do. Time is so precious and unfortunately it is wasted far too often. I like how you make comparisons, a second can last forever or feel like it doesn't exist - because yes, time IS relative. Rich are those who understand how precious every second is. I find it so sad how we all just live from one weekend to the next, from one vacation to the next. Of course, a separation between work and career is important, but a bit more balance would certainly not hurt here. But just thinking about it at all, being aware of it, helps immensely. Dear Lina, I wish you a lot of time for yourself, for the beautiful things and also for boredom, because it's not that bad, quite the opposite. All the best and a very big hug to you, x S.Mirli

    1. Dear Mirli,

WOW, thank you <3 for your wonderful feedback and inspiring thoughts. Your words hit the heart!
Haha yes, and you might need boredom from time to time to be able to get creative 🙂
      Feel hugged 🙂

See you soon and all the best,
      Lina

    1. Thank you very much for your lovely comment!
I wish you a wonderful day full of seconds that deserve to be enjoyed 🙂

      Dearest greetings,
      Lina

  6. A very nice post and the watch is really super pretty! I can only confirm what you say about the separation of work and free time. Especially if you don't really enjoy your job, you simply look forward to the end of the day every day. But if you love your job and have nice colleagues, you might like going to work and feel a little bit “free” there too.
    Best regards,
    Sarah
