Weekend breakfast with regional specialties and live music
After my arrival in the morning on a weekend, I was able to strengthen myself at the rich and delicious buffet. In addition to classical live music for a delicious weekend breakfast, the boutique hotel also offers a free waltz taster course for its guests. That breakfast in the hotel really exceeds all expectations! Many regional specialties and typical Viennese delicacies are offered. Above all, guests will also find plenty of healthy food and drinks such as delicious smoothies, fresh fruit or refreshing turmeric water. It's great that vegetarians also get their money's worth and find a large selection of breakfast variations.

Then I made myself comfortable in the beautiful patio, the outer courtyard of the hotel, and immediately discovered Eos, the fluffy one VID (Very Important Dog) of the hotel. Who needs VIP's when you can have such a beautiful, big and lovely Wiener Hofhund like Eos lying next to you? I've been toying with the idea of getting a dog for a long time. As a frequent traveler, it's nice for me to know that there are also dog-friendly hotels, such as the Hotel Donauwalzer, because dogs are very welcome here!
The room: A real VIENNA ORIGINAL
The room was not long in coming and a short time after check-in I had my key in my hands. I particularly like that the guests receive a classic, elegant key and not an exchangeable card. My provided room is on the fifth floor, where all so-called VIENNA ORIGINALS rooms can be found. the VIENNA ORIGINALS are a total of 13 rooms, each of which is dedicated to a typical traditional Viennese company and has also been designed together with the respective company. Each room is therefore unique and reflects the special character of a Viennese original. For example, there is the Schneekugel Manufaktur, the Ottakringer Brewery, the Mühlbauer Hat Manufactory, which I was even allowed to visit later, and many other unique items.
The Café Landtmann with a view over the roofs of Vienna
I was allowed to enter the light-flooded and spacious room Cafe Landtmann shop dedicated to the traditional Viennese café. With a view over the rooftops of Vienna, it was perfect for me to work and relax. The room is lovingly furnished with the right eye for the small details that make up the charm of the elegant and at the same time cozy café. After unpacking a bit, I went on a tour of discovery through the hotel. On each floor, all connected by an ancient elegant spiral staircase, there are musical instruments, sheet music or gramophones.
Explore Vienna's old town on foot
The Viennese waltz can be felt literally everywhere. Not only in the hotel. What the tango is to Buenos Aires, the waltz is to Vienna: the whole city seems to be inspired by music and movement. Be it in architecture or at a reception. Music is omnipresent in Vienna. And that's just as well. A little later I walked to the old town of Vienna to get a first impression. And impression is right, because what I got to see there was really more than just impressive. Be it public garden, the Austrian National Library, an townhall of Vienna, the Gothic St. Stephen's Cathedral or Burgtheater: Rarely have I seen so many sights at once and so close together!
I didn't even know where to go first because I was so overwhelmed. Therefore, the next few days went on an intensive tour of discovery: from the old town to the Donaukanal, to the Prater and to the Vienna universities. Every morning I strengthened myself at a relaxed breakfast with fresh smoothies, waffles and delicious desserts in glasses before continuing on in the footsteps of Sissi and the fascinating Austrian Empire.
The Viennese originals
A visit to the WIENER ORIGINALE was a particularly nice experience. With the Fiacre by Sissy Ringl we headed towards the old town to the first station "To the Black Camel". The traditional Art Nouveau house has been the fine address for gourmets, artists and connoisseurs since 1618. Behind the funny retro logo with the black camel, a representative brand has emerged that offers all kinds of delicacies. After our stop we continued to hat manufacture Mühlbauer. A visit could not have been more suitable for me, after all I am and live Petit Chapeau.
For me as an absolute hat lover (I counted, I currently own 15 hats) it was a real highlight to get an insight into the production of handmade, unique hats. The many different, high-quality materials, the exciting development process from the puristic form to the finished hat and the traditional history behind Mühlbauer make this Viennese manufactory unique. In the meantime, Mühlbauer counts greats like Yoko Ono and Brad Pitt among their loyal customers. The international market has long since been conquered and the demand for the special, lovingly crafted hats is increasing rapidly.
"A man who does not eat chocolate misses life." Frederic Morton
The next stop at Altmann & Kuehne literally made my day! Because I was allowed to try the traditional fine mini pralines – also known as Liliput confections. The recipe is free of artificial additives but with all the more flavor and has been for over 100 years. Now a listed building, the confectionery has been preserved in its original condition and attracts chocolate lovers from all over the world every year. In particular, the lovingly designed packaging such as small dressers, hat boxes or caskets have long been an unmistakable trademark. The Viennese like to affectionately call them “Naschkasterln”.
What I particularly appreciate about the concept of the WIENER ORIGINALE is the desire to continue to strengthen traditional companies in the present because they are closely linked to the culture and identity of the city.
Because it is precisely companies with history and heart that make a cityscape really beautiful, unique, interesting and clearly set it apart from the mishmash of today's retail chains. Such companies shape a whole attitude towards life. And the WIENER ORIGINALE prove that it really works. That people are really interested in traditional companies with a long and exciting history and are happy to come back.
I visited that the next day butterfly house and couldn't stop being amazed. I have never seen so many different large and beautiful butterflies before. It was really adorable! The Butterfly House is definitely worth a visit just for the experience of seeing so many colorful butterflies at once.
In the evening I made my way to the famous Vienna Naschmarktto say hello ahead of my upcoming shoot with the wonderful Sophie von Sophie's travel blog, to strengthen a little and of course to snack a lot. After that we met at a magnificent sunset at the Albertina Museum, where we took an incredible number of beautiful photos in a very short time, despite the summer heat.
Schönbrunn Palace: With Sachertorte and coffee in the Gloriette in the palace garden
At the end of my trip I looked at the fabulous Schönbrunn Castle on. With coffee and Sachertorte I could admire the wonderful view from the Gloriette enjoy the beautiful park. In any case, my trip to Vienna was a complete success with many small and large moments of happiness, which not only made me like the city, but also aroused a great desire to see me again. But not only the city, but also my accommodation contributed to this.
The Boutique Hotel Blue Danube Waltz drowns out the noise of the city with elegance and cordiality. Many of the most beautiful sights can be easily reached on foot from the hotel, there is a train stop right in front of the entrance and the subway is just a few meters away. I love accommodations that are authentic and bring guests closer to the lifestyle of a city in a charming way. And here I felt the heart of Vienna, through and through!
