Family-run hiking hotel in the Hohe Tauern National Park: The Hotel Gassner
Anyone who has been with us for a longer period of time knows our passion for exceptional hotels and accommodationsThe Hotel Gassner **** Superior in Neukirchen clearly falls into this category. Located just above Neukirchen and nestled in the alpine scenery of the Hohe Tauern National Park, this family-run hotel combines genuine hospitality with the tranquility of the mountains. Hosts Sonja and Hans-Peter Gassner welcome their guests with warmth and a keen eye for harmonious details.
At an altitude of 883 meters, the view extends across the valley to the peaks of approximately 30 three-thousand-meter peaks. The Grossvenediger, towering majestically above the valley floor, is particularly impressive. With 49 elegant rooms and suites and the 1.200-square-meter Crystal and Garden SPA, the Hotel Gassner is a wonderful place for those who love the outdoors but also appreciate the indoor offerings.

Live in the middle of the treetops on 147 m² – The treehouse at Hotel Gassner
As soon as you enter the Treehouse Lodge We were immediately impressed. The combination of local natural materials and carefully selected details creates a warm and inviting atmosphere that is evident in every corner. The 53 m² wooden terrace with a swing and expansive panoramic views quickly became our favorite spot.

The children's room, in typical treehouse style with a loft bed, offers little adventurers just the right space to dream and explore. The windows offer a direct view of the adjacent forest, where, with a little luck, shy deer might be spotted. The bathroom is a true oasis of well-being. A spacious wellness shower, infrared loungers, and fluffy bathrobes invite you to relax. The practical kitchenette offers everything you need, including a tea and Nespresso machine, for relaxing breaks.

A very special highlight awaits in the upstairs bedroom: the freestanding bathtub with a view of the surrounding mountains. Every morning, we looked forward to the sunrise, when the room was filled with soft light and the mountains slowly revealed their contours. And at night, a clear, starry sky stretched over the treehouse—one of the most impressive we've ever seen.
The Treehouse Lodge is a true passion project. Inspired by the TV show The treehouse professionals Sonja and her husband didn't just dream up the idea, they put it into practice, creating a unique, luxurious treehouse. Guests can relax high up in the treetops and enjoy the tranquility of nature.

Wanderlust, Sights & Leisure
Whether in the morning sun over the peaks or at sunset, there's always something to discover around the Gassner Hiking Hotel. The mountains of the Hohe Tauern invite you to marvel at the diverse range of hikes. Between alpine huts, panoramic trails, and wildlife encounters, exploring becomes an experience. And what could be better than taking off your hiking boots in the evening and relaxing your tired muscles by the crackling fireplace in the treehouse?

Guided walks
The Gassner Hiking Hotel offers five to seven guided hikes per week. Together with host Hans-Peter or hiking guide Monika, you'll explore quiet forest trails, clear mountain lakes, or panoramic peaks. In winter, snowshoe and torchlit hikes are offered. Free stories about plants, animals, and hidden places are also offered along the way.

Encounters in nature
If you're quiet and look closely, you have a good chance of encountering one of the many marmots - a special experience for all ages.

National Park Summer Card – your ticket to the region
The National Park Summer Card, included with every stay, gives you access to over 60 destinations. These include mountain railways, nature parks, museums, and guided national park tours. You can also use the region's buses, hiking buses, and cable cars free of charge—ideal for spontaneous excursions or relaxing days without a car.
Wildkogel Arena – A highlight even in summer
The Wildkogel Arena is not only a delight in winter; it's also worth a visit outside of the ski season. The Wildkogelbahn cable car takes you to over 10 meters in just under 2.100 minutes, climbing approximately 1.350 meters in altitude. From the mountain station, you'll enjoy sweeping views over the valley and the imposing three-thousand-meter peaks of the Hohe Tauern National Park.
At the top, numerous hiking trails invite you to explore – from the family-friendly Panorama Trail to the varied Three Lakes Trail, which leads past clear mountain lakes and colorful meadows. For adventure seekers, the Slide Path offers a special highlight: a hiking trail with ten stainless steel slides leading downhill.
