Tips for the perfect dirndl outfit
Every time I'm abroad, I'm asked one question again and again: "How is the Oktoberfest in Munich?" My answer then makes the questioner suspicious: "I don't know, I've never been there." "What? ! You live in Germany and have never been to the Oktoberfest?” Guilty and happy at the same time. I didn't even celebrate my very first Oktoberfest in Germany, but in Saigon. That's how life works! At that time I hadn't even owned a dirndl.

Only last year I wore a dirndl for the first time and because of ignorance I didn't pay attention to a few things. One thing is for sure: Wearing a dirndl is really smart again! The traditional dress has become so popular in recent years that it is now a part of getting in the mood for autumn throughout Germany with folk festivals, roasted almonds, beer mugs and colorful carousels. If you want to know what you should look out for when buying and wearing a dirndl, then you can now browse through my list of tips for your perfect dirndl appearance:
1. Where can I buy a dirndl?
From many discounters to well-known chains or online: you can now buy a dirndl almost anywhere. However, if you value high quality and a good fit, I would advise against dirndl that are too cheap. These models often have nothing to do with a traditional dirndl and look more like a carnival costume. So it depends on whether you want to dress up or whether you want to feel as comfortable in your dirndl as you really are. A recommended dirndl underlines your natural, feminine beauty. Therefore, high-quality dirndls without a blouse start at at least €150 and there are almost no upper limits.
However, since the dirndl can also be a garment for life, which you may even be able to pass on to your children or grandchildren at some point, I personally think that it is worth investing in your dream dirndl. You can find the right dirndl in traditional costume shops, at dirndl fashion shows or online. My dirndl by MarJo I'm open Alpenclassicse.de discovered. I find the squirrel logo particularly cute on the brand.
2. The ideal length and width
A dirndl should never be too short. That means: It should at least be knee-length and the underwear must definitely not be visible when you bend over. Although a dirndl is tight, breathing should not be underestimated 😉 so the right balance between an ideal fit and feel-good character is required.
3. Which shoes do you wear with a dirndl?
Even if high heels can look great with a dirndl, ballerinas or comfortable traditional pumps are a much safer and more comfortable choice. Traditionally, more rustic shoes are worn with the dirndl, such as hiking shoes, traditional ankle boots or brogues. And it's better to dance at the Wiesn in comfortable shoes.
4. How was that loop again?
Yes, yes the dirndl and the pretty bow. But how was that again? I almost made myself a widow. So that there are no misunderstandings about your relationship status, it is helpful to know on which side the dirndl bow is tied. A bow on the left means the woman is single, the bow on the right signals that she is engaged, engaged or married. Widowed women wore a bow tied behind their backs. And the bow tied in the middle in front of the stomach traditionally symbolizes virginity. Uhlala but let's be honest, you shouldn't take the apron rules too seriously.
5. The right dirndl hairstyle
You can really let off steam with the Dirndl hairstyle: whether braided, pinned up, open, sweet, cheeky or very elegant. There are no limits. Whether with or without accessories in the hair, a beautiful Dirndl hairstyle can ideally complement the folk festival look. I prefer simple hairstyles and like to get the necessary inspiration on Pinterest or Youtube.
6. Dirndl jewelry
My favorite and most beautiful jewelry is still the gingerbread heart. Otherwise, romantic earrings, rings, bracelets and chains in a vintage design are suitable. Or how about grandma's heirloom? When it comes to jewelry with a dirndl, less is sometimes more! A few carefully chosen details are usually more effective than too much jewellery.
7. Which Dirndl suits me?
With a dirndl, it's often like love at first sight. The selection of cuts, shapes and materials from cotton to silk and lace is immense. If you discover one that you like right away because every detail fits together harmoniously, then you have probably found the perfect dirndl for you. However, do not underestimate the dirndl blouse. It should always match the dress neckline and ideally complement the dirndl dress. In addition, they should do one thing above all: not missing! Although I have already seen women who simply omit the dirndl blouse, a blouse is traditionally required under the dirndl dress. The most important thing when deciding on a dirndl is still that you feel comfortable in it. But maybe you would like to try a color that you rarely wear in everyday life or that you have always wanted to wear? A dirndl can be festive and emphasize your individual feminine beauty accordingly.
You look really good in a dirdl, and you have definitely chosen a great model 🙂
I find the delicate little sleeves of the blouse particularly chic, I've never seen anything like it before. I also think the shoes are combined well... an all-round successful look!

Oh, thank you very much! Yes, I wore a lace blouse under a dirndl dress for the first time this year. It's fun to try something different

Quite magical. You look really wonderful in your dirndl. I've never worn one myself. Since we live far away from the Oktoberfest and I don't usually like to go to such big events. But it always looks magical.

Such a great dirndl and a few really great tips - it's a pity that I probably won't be able to wear a dirndl this year.

On Saturday there is also an Oktoberfest in my area and there
I can finally put on my dirndl. It's hanging like that now
It's been in my closet for a long time and I haven't had a chance to wear it yet.

How nice! And also practical that you already have a dirndl in your closet.
Hope you had a lot of fun at the Oktoberfest 🙂

The dirndl looks great on you. I also have one from Alpenclassics and am very happy with it.

I also think traditional costumes are incredibly beautiful! MarJo dirndls are really great! I ordered mine from Krüger this year and fell in love from the first second. In any case, I wore a ballerina at the Oktoberfest here in Austria. I wouldn't be able to stand it all night in heels. I find your dirndl incredibly beautiful. You look really adorable <3

Dear Alice,
thank you very much for your kind words! Krueger
Dirndl are also wonderful. With the large selection of dirndls nowadays, I would like to wear dirndls more often. At the Oktoberfest I also opted for comfortable shoes 🙂 it's just more fun if you can be on your feet all night without any problems.
Have a wonderful week!
Best regards,
Lina
You look amazing.
This year I'm going to the Oktoberfest for the first time. I wasn't aware that you have to pay attention to so many things with a dirndl. I will make sure that my dirndl is at least knee-length.
